Caffeine is a tiny program that puts an icon in the right side of your menu bar. Click it to prevent your Mac from automatically going to sleep, dimming the screen or starting screen savers. Click it again to go back. Hold down the Command key while clicking to show the menu.

Now for my Predictions for 2008. Feel free to comment and add your own, or debate mine:

1. Entertainment compaines will continue to see decreasing sales in both CD and DVD purchases. On Demand movies and rentals will increase

2. Google Gmail will finally come out of Beta!

3. Smartphones will really start to take off. More people starting to use Smartphones as their main source for email/web surfing

4. AppleTV will get more recognition and becomes more popular as a media center for home users. It will be Apples Sleeper device that will now take off

5. Surfing the net will become slower. As more and more people sign uop for broadband and users download music, video, games, not to mention video and audio streaming, the ISPs will have a hard time keeping up with the bandwidth. The biggest problem is SPAM which accounts for 90% of all traffic on the internet. ISPs are going to have to wake up and start doing something about SPAM. For years ISPs main concern was keeping up with download traffic since that is the majority of traffic their users use. Uploads werent a main concern because upload usage is relatively small compared to how much is downloaded. Besides, it would cost them too much money to try and fix it. Well, they are going to have to start doing something about it, because at the rate spam is growing, those uploads are going to start effecting the network and already has!

6. More people will turn to free open source programs like OpenOffice and Google Docs.

7. Vista still will see slow growth while XP continues to be the choice for Windows users. Microsoft will extend the life of Windows XP, instead of cutting it off on June 30

8. "Green" IT will become a key factor in big businesses. Using more efficient equipment and reduce power consumption will now be something to consider.

9.Ultra-portable laptops will be here. Of course there's the rumor floating aroung about Apple introducing a flash-based laptop or mini computer at MacWorld in January. Not sure if this is true, but I see more companies making small lightweight ultra-portable laptops. Even more portable than our current laptops. Flash memory is coming down in price. An ultra-portable computer with 16-32GB flash hard drive will be plenty useful for what people will want to do with them.

10. Apple will gain more new market share. This is not news, but the general public is having more interest in Apple products from mainstream consumers than we have seen in past years. Ok, so part of it is due to the iPod and the iPhone. But another reason Apple is getting more attention is because the Mac is starting to open peoples eyes and see how easy a computer can be to use when it does all the things it's supposed to do, and isn't tied down by viruses and spyware.

If you use the built-in file encryption in Windows Vista, you might be interested in adding an option to the right-click menu to more easily encrypt and decrypt your files, rather than having to use the file properties dialog.
